Below is an example of how we use AI. All of the text below was produced from a transcription of content we dictated for publication, which we then read, corrected, verified and translated into English.
Why we use AI in our law firm
At Wołoszański & Partners, we make extensive use of artificial intelligence, using it to support both our legal work and the day-to-day running of our organisation. We use its capabilities when analysing information, organising documentation, preparing drafts of written materials and streamlining processes. We believe that providing legal services in the 21st century requires making informed use of the latest technologies. Used properly, AI makes it possible to work through extensive materials more efficiently, analyse more possible solutions and devote more time to strategy and to the client's individual needs. This also matters in disputes and negotiations, where the other participants may be using similar tools. In our view, forgoing the opportunities offered by the responsible use of AI may limit the effectiveness of the support we provide and deprive the client of significant benefits. That is why we regard technological development as part of looking after the quality of our services.
Our lawyers check AI output and remain accountable
Behind every piece of advice and every recommendation we give stand the knowledge, experience and accountability of our lawyers. Artificial intelligence supports their work, and its output is subject to substantive verification. We check the information, the legal bases, the rulings cited and whether the proposed solutions are appropriate to the specific matter. We take into account the limitations of the models, including their potential to generate information that is untrue, incomplete or out of date. The final legal assessment, the choice of strategy and the content of the position communicated to the client remain with the firm's team. In this way, we combine the capabilities of technology with professional judgement, an understanding of the client's situation and the standards of professional practice.
We protect professional secrecy and data in AI tools
Confidentiality, professional secrecy and the security of our clients' and the firm's data are the fundamental criteria for selecting and using AI tools. We use, among others, solutions from Microsoft and other carefully selected providers, assessing the terms of their use in each case. We review privacy policies, the rules for storing and deleting data, the terms of access to information and whether that information may be used to train models. We tailor the scope of information shared with the tools to the purpose and nature of the task, limiting data and applying anonymisation where this is justified and possible. We use technical safeguards, internal procedures, policies and audits to identify threats, reduce risks and protect the information entrusted to us. We also review our choice of tools and the way we work with them as technology develops and as the terms offered by providers change.
Transparency and our Data Protection Officer
Our approach to AI is based on transparency. We openly inform clients about the principles on which we use technology in our work and explain how we combine its capabilities with the protection of the information entrusted to us. The privacy policy available on this site, which describes the rules for processing data in connection with the use of our website, is another example of this transparency. The firm's Data Protection Officer is Marta Solarska-Kaleńczuk. Questions, comments and requests concerning data protection, including those relating to the use of AI tools, can be sent to data.protection@wlaw.pl. We want our clients to understand how we work, to be able to obtain the explanations they need and to make informed use of the value that modern technology brings to working with the firm.
